Why Pink Lady?

Before I move on, I thought it was important to address the name Pink Lady. There may be a bit of confusion. After all, it is October, and October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and pink is their color.

Well, I am certainly a supporter of breast cancer research. And there is a good chance that as time goes on, breast cancer will be mentioned from time to time on the blog. But I'm not called Pink Lady for any association with breast cancer or breast cancer research.

Sometimes, pink is just a color. Millions of 5 and 6 year old girls go crazy over the color pink. (And quite a few 5 and 6 year old boys, as well. My 6 year old nephew always says that pink is his favorite color. And why not? It's a great color!)

Sometimes, Pink is just a name. Like hers:

She's pretty kick ass, eh?
(I think I'm pretty kick ass, too, but I certainly can't measure up to that!)

Anyway, Pink Lady was simply my trail name. We all have trail names on the AT. I hiked side by side with people for weeks and didn't know their real names. I leap frogged back and forth with hikers for the entire length of the trail and never found out their real names. It becomes almost an alter-ego, that trail name. Like you are some kind of hiking super-hero.

And then, you feel like it's the real you. I remember the confusion of being called by my real name when I got home. Who is that? Have we met? I'm Pink Lady!

(Pretty kick ass, eh?)

  1. I love it! It's an awesome nickname/alter ego.
